PRESENTING KELLYANN GILSON LYMAN
Kellyann Gilson Lyman is a gifted painter, printmaker, photographer, designer and sculptor. In the purest sense Kellyann has skillfully created a body of work that is simultaneously lyrical and mysterious, jubilant yet poetic. Employing these paradoxes, she skillfully applies her raw talent into different mediums and styles creating a sense of flux, depth and dominance. Since her emergence, Kellyann has blended the concerns and methods of both abstract and conceptual art with photography and process to create her own unique iconography of appropriation and pop art. Uplifting and engaging, in a time when culture can be cultivated by being engaged in art in public spaces. This is Kellyann's interest in art & design as a means to encourage ethics & aesthetics in education in our youth, our next generation. Artists paying forward the creative process. It is an aesthetic that takes elemental images and text, transforming the canvas into an interactive, thought provoking experience for the viewer.
In her work with print and typography she re-establishes a flair and commitment to process not seen in decades. Contrasts in scale, shifts in focus, mirrored reflections, staccato images, and multiple or layered surfaces, effortlessly capture the mood and the spirit of art, allowing the viewer to connect and experience the very act of creativity on an innate level. Her work is intense, yet moving, powerful yet sensitive. After receiving her B.A. at the University of California Los Angeles in Political Sociology, she went on to study visual communications and graphic arts & design at the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has worked in a variety of fields from strategic luxury brand corporate design, study of creativity & innovation in entrepreneurs, webdesign to real estate & curation. It is this unique and diverse backround that truly informs her work. Gathering a plethora of subjects in her field of vision, she draws on her inner world, inviting us to join her on a journey of discovery into the essence of being, depicting new truths of the meaning of existence, love and relationships. With each painting more enigmatic and luxurious than the last, she creates an organic experience never before seen in abstract and expressionist painting. Not simply an accomplished printmaker and painter the artist, is also a graphic designer, and photographer. He design approach and aesthetic is equally luscious and inspired. The energy and vigor of her explosive creations delight the viewer with a dynamic juxtaposition of both playful, yet mystical implications.
Her works are often described as magical. From her rich application of paint on canvas, to the conceptual balance and flows of her sculpture. They all represent a zealous vision of an ardent practitioner. Relying equally on her unconscious, and the world around her for inspiration, she employs a philosophy and approach embraced by many poets... personal experi- mentation and an openness to forms enable Kellyann to reach into a deep inside the soul, and allow her to recreate the experience of the artist with beauty and sensitivity, capturing something so special and rare. Caught between description and dreamlike states, and the observed and the imagined, her work transforms the norm into poetic visions and fantasy.
Through her hand crafted platform's kellyannart.com & kellyannartsalon.com (live launch) she curates annual collections of modern culture that are at once interactive . Since her first solo show, Kellyann has exhibited in international group & solo exhibitions, articulating her vision of large scale work in public art spaces. Her recent projects have included exhibitions at the S Gallery in Soho, Art fairs including Hong Kong Basel and Art Zurich.
